INSECTOID BEAST
"He could see, miles below the surface, a large stone slab, rough and stained. The bodies of children were splattering against it, and crouched down in that darkness was a creature, a large black beast with stiff limbs, each long and bent but quick. The creature's elongated, twitching head danced atop its insectiod torso as it skittered from one end of the slab to the other, gathering the broken bodies of the children as fast as they were falling, enwrapping them, keeping them alive, keeping them for its own sake."
Philip Fracassi, AltarThis creature is from the book Harboring Monsters where I illustrated a bunch of Philip Fracassi stories. During our correspondence, Philip told me this particular creature is inspired by the demon in Salvatore Rosa's The Temptation of St. Anthony and that he saw it as related to the demon in Shiloh.
He wanted Rosa's demon to be a starting point but not the exact design. And since Lovecraft mentioned Rosa's painting in the Commonplace Book, I'd already drawn it and didn't want be redundant.
