There isn't too much to say about this guy because The Commonplace Book is super underrepresented in HPL canon. So this thing isn't gonna show up in too many places.

My idea for this was to show some sort of ancient amphibious humanoid creature. Like another branch of evolution that died out before man. Maybe a predecessor to the serpent people. It's got an amphibious tail similar to a tadpole and webbed hands like a frog. The single eye is a reference to the vestigial eye found in the tutuara. 

Because the Commonplace Book entries are so vague I took the opportunity to approach from a different direction for my illustrated version. This time I made it an amorphous shoggoth-type creature.

As far as old vs new; you can see the eye was the main thing I wanted to fix. Plus I made the tail longer and fixed the linework and rendering.
