CARRION CRAWLER

CARRION CRAWLER

“Carrion crawlers strongly resemble a cross between a giant green cutworm and a huge cephalopod. They are usually found only in subterranean areas. A carrion crawler moves quite rapidly on its multiple legs despite its bulk, and a wall or ceiling is as easily traveled as a floor, for each of the beast's feet are equipped with sharp claws which hold it fast. The head is equipped with 8 tentacles which flail at prey;”

Gary Gygax, Monster Manual

A fan favorite, the carrion crawler first appeared in the 1975 Greyhawk supplement but with no artwork. It showed again up in the Monster Manual with an illustration by David C. Sutherland.

The original description is an amalgam of a cutworm and a cephalopod. I chose a cuttlefish and decided to give it the cephalopod beak instead of that odd gaping hole of a mouth.

This is another one that I had the toy as a kid. It was soft rubber with wire inside so you could pose it just like the otyugh. It also has package illustrations by Steve Bisette.

Ok folks, I'm gonna keep this one a little shorter and remind you that I'll be on vacation next week, so no monsters. BUT Dungeon Compendium I & II will be
AVAILABLE FRIDAY MAY 6TH 11AM EST
