THING IN THE MOONLIGHT

THING IN THE MOONLIGHT
"Presently I heard a swishing in the sparse grass toward the left, and saw the dark forms of two men looming up in the moonlight."

"I leaped up at once & raced madly out of that car & away across endless leagues of plateau till exhaustion waked me – doing this not because the conductor had dropped on all fours, but because the face of the motorman was a mere white cone tapering to
one blood-red tentacle. . ."
H.P. Lovecraft & J. Chapman Miske, The Thing In the Moonlight

Now this is an obscure one! A dream of Lovecraft's described in a letter to Donald Wandrei that was expanded into a short story by J. Chapman Miske.

The Thing In the Moonlight was first published in the January 1941 issue of Bizarre! with an illustration by Walter E. Marconette. As far as I can tell this creep never really worked its way into any official bestiary in gameplay etc. Which is a shame because it's a truly bizarre and unsettling idea.

This one really didn't change much except that the rendering is slightly different. The contrast isn't as harsh. I also changed the anatomy of the face/tentacle a tiny bit.

Tomorrow will be another, less obscure, weirdo from one of HPLs revision stories.
