INVISIBLE THING
"55-Man followed by invisible thing."
H.P. Lovecraft, Commonplace Book
Another obscure creature mentioned as an idea only in HPL's Commonplace Book. I love drawing creatures described as "invisible". It may seem like a difficult proposition but my approach is to just let my imagination run wild with a design and then have it fade in visibility. The idea being that this creature is visible in some spectrum of light or in a different dimension, it's just invisible to humans.
The main difference between old & new here is the eye.
This is 99% just a creature I designed by sketching but 1% (the proboscis) is inspired by the brain bug from Paul Verhoeven's excellent satire of nationalism & fascism Starship Troopers.
As with the primordial thing from a few days ago, when I tackled this one for my illustrated version of the Commonplace Book, I decided to redesign it. For the most part, I didn't want to repeat designs or just plop my old creatures into a background.
The rest of the week is creatures from the Commonplace Book, so get ready for even more obscure weirdos!
