"The dark walls closed me in, and loud I cursed
That ever I had come to such a den,
When suddenly a score of windows burst
Into wild light, and swarmed with dancing men:
Mad, soundless revels of the dragging dead—
And not a corpse had either hands or head!"
H.P. Lovecraft, The Fungi From Yuggoth
Here's a redrawing of one of HPL's various living corpses. Again, nothing too different here, just cleaned up the linework, anatomy color and rendering.
As far as other depictions of this go, there's nothing I could find. I think it's because it's only mentioned and it's in a poem (granted HPL's most famous poem) no one's decided to expand the lore of this guy. I do love HPL's living dead creatures because they're not simply zombies. They're usually from folklore or half melted or a frankensteined together. This one is no exception. The idea of a bunch of headless & handless corpses cavorting around.....truly disturbing!
Tomorrow's a creature that's equally obscure but infinitely weirder!
