ACHTI

ACHTI
"An achti, perhaps. Some of those were the right size though they had three times as many teeth as I did and a real love of using them."

"I put the achti's long, warm body over my shoulder—glad that some of the weight I'd gained was muscle—and took it to the kitchen."

"T'Gatoi might want one, I told myself, for the tough, heavily furred hide of the achti."
Octavia Butler, Blood Child

Another one from Butler's Blood Child. I feel like when people discuss the alien aspect of this story the tlic get all the attention, but the achti are there too. Weird little furry creatures with a lot of teeth that are also indigenous to this planet. It's hinted at that the tlic used to use the achti in their impregnation rituals but the achti figured out how to kill the unborn before they burst out. I love that detail that hints about the ecology and evolution of the planet.

I haven't been able to find any illustrations of these guys but I imagined them as sheep sized ferrets with blunt teeth.
